Study: 29% of SMBs Have Adopted Cloud-Based Tech to Help Run Their Business

Cloud-based technology, software as a service (SaaS) and other digital platforms are revolutionizing how businesses big and small manage everything from HR and payroll to marketing and supply chain. As these technologies “flow downstream” and become more affordable/available, small businesses are beginning to adopt these technologies.

The 2017 Tech Adoption Index Survey revealed that roughly 29% of SMBs have adopted cloud-based technology to help them run their businesses. Based on the survey, digital ad spend is a gateway behavior to cloud adoption among these SMBs. In other words, as digital ad spend increases so does cloud adoption. The opposite is true as well, with only 13% adoption of cloud tech among SMBs that spend zero on digital advertising.

More and more SMBs are migrating to “the cloud” to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their day-to-day operations. As a result, more and more SMB providers are expanding product offerings to include cloud-based tools and services. Understanding which characteristics correlate to cloud adopters will provide companies a competitive advantage by identifying likely buyer personas.
