In 2015, more than 95 million U.S. consumers shopped at small businesses on Small Business Saturday. Customers aware of this American Express initiative spent $16.2 billion at independent retailers and restaurants on the day, a 14% increase versus 2014. As the data show, awareness and popularity of the #ShopSmall movement continues to grow.
One of the biggest challenges facing local businesses (and brands) is getting attention and getting in front of consumers during an increasingly complex path to purchase. By the time they enter the store, most shoppers will have done considerable research online.
